From Acclaim to Rage: Right-wing Response to Epstein File Disclosure is Divided.

Right-leaning responses to the partial release of files related to the Epstein case have been mixed, with some supporters of the previous administration pointing out the noticeable presence of former President Clinton and additional Democrats in photographs, while different voices lamented how extensive redactions cast former President Trump and Republicans in a negative manner.

Justice Department Defends Redactions with Fervent Hyperbole

Justice Department officials defended the heavily censored sections with intense hyperbole. “At no point in American the nation's history has a Commander-in-Chief or the Department of Justice been this open with the American people about such a sensitive law enforcement matter,” stated Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who issued a six-page letter describing the censorship process.

Questions Prompted by Redactions

While Trump's identity and likeness appear in some of the documents, the widespread redactions prompt significant concerns about the information may be hidden behind them. A number of conservative lawmakers swiftly demanded increased openness.

“The public are raging and disengaging,” wrote Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Via a online statement, GOP Kentucky Thomas Massie asserted the censorship violate the statute, and implied that a future legislature may move to remove the Attorney General, Pam Bondi, for that violation. “Regrettably, this file dump egregiously does not comply with both the spirit and the letter of the law,” he continued.

A Faction of Conservative Commentators Swing Behind the Disclosure

But, a segment of rightwing pundits and former President loyalists swung firmly in support of the administration.

The disclosed materials—from a DOJ led by close Trump associate Pam Bondi—includes hundreds of documents that are completely redacted, and many of the men shown in photographs have their identities blacked out.

But some are not, featuring high-profile individuals like Bill Clinton, pop singer Michael Jackson, and scholar Noam Chomsky. The inclusion of the former president, especially, allowed some conservative voices to launch the attack.

“This is pretty rich how the Democrats wrongly accused President Trump of being a sex offender, only for the administration's Justice Department to release documents that show Bill Clinton swimming nude with a pedophile,” stated right-wing activist Laura Loomer.

“New Epstein Files reveal Bill Clinton without a shirt in a hot tub with a female that is other than his spouse Hillary Clinton,” posted lawyer Rogan O’Handley. “There is only 1 reason Epstein would take pictures of a US President with a young woman in a hot tub: Blackmail.”

Clinton Campaign Releases Response

Bill Clinton has repeatedly stated he was aware of no criminal activity by Epstein and has not been alleged to have participated in any wrongdoing. “The White House has not been concealing those documents for months only to release them at the last minute on a Friday to protect Bill Clinton,” his spokesperson Angel Ureña stated in a comment.

“The release is about shielding themselves from what comes next, or from information they will try and hide permanently. So they can publicize as many grainy 20-plus-year-old photos as they want, but this is not about Bill Clinton. Never has, not ever be,” the response added.

Overall Conservative Commentary Seems Muted

However, overall comment on the right was comparatively muted after the disclosure, particularly when juxtaposed against the vociferous demands for transparency that came before the congressional approval to pass a law requiring the documents' publication.

The commentator, who recently accepted press credentials at the Defense Department, had been among the most vocal proponents for a complete disclosure. In February, she chastised the administration generally and Bondi specifically after a group of rightwing personalities were given physical folders of materials that contained little new information.
