Cars in German Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers mentioned they were notified by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.

A high-ranking official said the attack rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
